Come Join TVB Down On the Beach and Help the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto!
On Sunday, May 28, the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto (“DSAT”, www.dsat.ca) is hosting its 20th Annual Down In The Beach Family and Friends Walk to raise funds to further its great work – and they need volunteers to help make the event a success!
The event takes place at Woodbine Beach Park, on Lakeshore Boulevard East, east of Coxwell, at the picnic shelter next to the Boardwalk Restaurant. The 5K Walk starts near the swimming pool, does a counter-clockwise loop, including the bicycle trail and the boardwalk, finishing at the picnic shelter. The 1K Fun Walk goes west on the bicycle trail and comes back on the boardwalk.
In addition to the Walk, there is a free Children's Festival that is open to all children, and features the Bouncy Castle, face painting, arts, games, crafts, clowns, Raptor and other guests.
Volunteers are needed from 7:30 a.m. to around noon to help with marshalling the 5K run on the beach, helping with the children's festival, 1K/5K registration, bag check, etc. There’s lots of fun and easy ways to help out, while spending a day in the sun.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Doreen Rice at DSAT at 416-966-0990 or info@dsat.ca or TVB’s contact Zayna Khayat at khayat.zayna@bcg.com or 416-904-4586.

Help Peacemakers International Make a Difference Right Here in Downtown Toronto!
Peacebuilders International is a non-profit organization that provides training in conflict prevention, management and resolution through Peacemaking Circles. The Peacemaking Circle is a group dialogue process with two highly trained facilitators; participants are encouraged to listen to others, step into their shoes, share their experiences, and work towards a common goal. The Circle is an extremely effective tool and creates a safe space for people to have difficult but respectful conversations. Here in Toronto, Peacemakers has recently completed two successful pilot projects to assist young offenders (who have accepted responsibility for their actions) get out of the criminal justice system, and instead move towards rehabilitation and reintegration back into the community in a positive manner.
Other samples of the work that Peacebuilders International does around the world:
- Bosnia – working with Muslim and Christian youth leaders teaching religious and ethnic coexistence and peacebuilding
- Cambodia – teaching skills in peacebuilding, critical thinking and leadership development to youth in Phnom Penh
- Canada – teaching circle processes to inner-city youth in Toronto, particularly Regent Park and St. James Town
- Colombia – teaching mediation and non-violent conflict resolution to youth in Bogota
- Northern Ireland – teaching Protestant and Catholic youth in Belfast non-violent conflict resolution
- U.S.A. – working with poor inner-city youth from the Cambodian community in Boston
If you would like to help Peacebuilders and enjoy an evening of fun and inspired philanthropy, please contact Jana Bogatin at 416.960.0105, or jbogatin@peacebuilders.ca, as soon as possible.
