Spotlight on Culture Link
Each month we like to put the spotlight on one of our partner charity organizations. This month, we are featuring Culture Link, which provides an important service to new Canadians. In 2004, more than 25 TVBers volunteered with Culture Link, making it one of our more popular volunteering experiences, and our feedback has said that it is incredibly rewarding for those who have become involved.
Culture Link is a settlement agency for new Canadians in Toronto. The organization administers programs promoting self-sufficiency, positive interaction and understanding between the Host and Newcomer communities, and the overall well being of all participants.
Culture Link is seeking volunteers for its Host Program, which is a one-on-one befriending program facilitating friendships between newcomers and volunteers from the host community. Volunteers are matched with new Canadians for 6 months on the basis of gender, age, and residential location. The new friends are expected to maintain weekly contact, and to meet at least twice per month for conversation, social interaction and resource/information sharing. Volunteers are given training to prepare them to participate in the program, including an orientation to social and community services and resources.
Culture Link is also seeking volunteers with expertise in marketing and public relations to assist the organization in its marketing efforts.
